Phew! After a month or two of hard work, I'm very excited to be able to show you all the next issue of Make It Work. This is available to purchase now from etsy here. There are also copies of Make It Work #1 still available (though in limited amounts now!) and a cute mini zine on the politics of self love and care that I made earlier this year.

Here's the blurb for Make It Work #2:

"This is a copy of my second issue of "Make It Work". Make It Work is a radical fat positive zine centred around DIY fatshion and craft projects. It contains a mixture of personal pieces, tutorials for a feather fascinator and a gathered skirt. This issue there is also talk about depression, self care, make up, health, taste, gender play and a bonus fat pin up centrefold! As always, there's also some bad art and general garishness. Contributors include Cynthia (Life of Cyn), Lauren (Pocket Rocket Fashion), Claire (Monkey Fatshionista) and Rebecca (Fat Girl Living), as well as others!

Half size (A5) with 40 pages total. The zine is colour and has a medium coloured card black and white cover. Sewn binding with wool."

On a side note, I'm just taking a bit of me time after clothes/zine making manically for the last month, so for now, my custom skirts aren't up on etsy. I'll be back soon, with a massive update of clothes which didn't sell at the Fattylympics. xxx

Spring Summer 2012

Spring might not have really hit Yorkshire yet, but I've still been plotting ideas for what I'd like to wear when it warms up. I had a nosey on etsy at my favourites this morning, and put this board together on polyvore for you all. These are all plus size friendly (mostly custom) pieces. I'm particularly looking to buy the custom bike shorts soon as I'm now cycling to work everyday and would like a little less, er, exposure when cycling in skirts! Also, they look great for chub rub prevention on long hot days.

Visit the polyvore set for links.

Another plug for you all today, SORRY. Everyone knows that I've been making clothes for a while now, and this past month I've been spending a lot of time getting my grading skills up to a good standard. I've made the decision to start selling custom made circle skirts (half and full, in a variety of printed cotton fabrics) on etsy.

I cater to any size for the prices listed, and there are other pattern options available (including some super cute bird prints!). If you're looking for a plain cotton, or perhaps a different pattern, you can also convo me and I'll see if I can source something for you (though this might incur extra costs).

There are currently four listings on Etsy - two custom listings and two ready to ship (the above two skirts, which are both best for a 20/22). Head over to my etsy shop for further details.

Sunday, January 30

Hey all! Gin and antics have made the past weekend a bit slow on the writing front, though most pleasant otherwise. This is what I wore to work on Friday, then to pick up some friends for a weekend of fun. The dress was from the etsy seller If Autumn Ends, though I bought it on a fatshionista sales post for cheaper than her list prices. It's a fantastic fit (despite not being custom made) and one of my most staple work dresses (despite the odd looks I get in it!).

Dress, £40, If Autumn Ends via fatshionista sales post
Tights, M&S
Shoes, £5 vintage store

Etsy finds

Oh looooordy. Just found this little beaut on etsy. Sadly out of my budget at $28 and more sadly on the small size for me, but one to note for anyone with a 44" bust or smaller. Is that suede panelling? Serious business.

Buy here.

We're back in basics land today. It's too bloody cold and I'm seriously surprised I managed to get out the house at all (especially thanks to some pesky insomnia that kept me up til 3am last night. Ah!). This jumper was a real steal at a charity shop, and has sat at the bottom of a draw for ages, until I recently discovered it's amazing layering capabilities. Now it's a definite keeper.

Jumper, 99p, charity shop
Dress, £12, M&S sale
Tights, £8 M&S
Boots, £25, Deichmann

In other news, I just listed a couple of new items to my (sparse) etsy shop. A sequinned disco top of joy, and a unisex nautical fancy waistcoat. Have a nosey if you're intrigued. Kx

Etsy: hissyfitoly

Hello!
Gosh, I have the internet again.

Here's another etsy recommendation. Hissyfitoly is one of my most favourite etsy sellers. She uses vintage fabrics and vintage patterns to produce repro retro dresses which will suit most sizes (she'll custom for any that aren't catered to). This beaut is too large for me and more suited to a more hourglass-y shape (56" bust, 43.5" waist) but highlights her immense skill set.

Her custom work is also very reasonable. Generally she can make a dress again to fit a different shape for the same price.

She also makes the most awesome uterus skirts, of which I had this one custom made for $40 for a birthday present from my boyfriend last year.

I've bought two things from her previously, and I have to say that her tailoring skills definitely make her clothes worth that little bit more.

My first etsy listing!

I'm etsy-ing again! For those who don't know, I used to run an ebay store specialising in plus size vintage. I don't have the room to hold the stock anymore, or the time to list, but instead I'm going to try and list a few finds on etsy, both from my wardrobe and from thrifting excursions.

My first item is up, and it's a lovely 50s/early 60s rayon dress in a patchwork pattern. Best fit someone *slightly* smaller than me - it measures 46",42"52" and can be found here for $35.

Another etsy score afoot for a larger fatty than me. This gorgeous gingham dress has a 52"+ bust, and a 48" waist, and is a bargain given how amazing it is for $56. Available here from Libbysweets.

MMMMM...

Let's talk etsy. Is anyone interested in me posting things I find on etsy, thrifting wise? It's easier now, but I used to find it a real bitch to navigate and figure out where the stuff in plus sizes actually is. It's still not easy.

I generally search for any of the following.
- XXL
- XXXL
- XL
- "plus size"
- "oversized"
- Also, try searching for particularly "generous" items of vintage clothing i.e. "tent dress", "cape",
"kaftan" etc. You'd be surprised what's labelled as a kaftan or a tent dress which is actually a well fitting item of plus sized vintage!

I find just searching by size helps, though you have to be prepared to sift through all the results and this is time consuming. Also, search around your size too - a lot of people don't really know what "xxl" or "xl" means, so I've found things that fit me in all categories.

Anyway, someone who is a size or two smaller than me should score these high waisted stonewashed beauties. They'll fit a 38" waist, 48" hips, and cost $26 from Sabrosa Vintage. Awesome much? More fatties in inappropriately trendy items of clothing please...
