A/W

Time for another somewhat haphazard Polyvore post! There are loads of seriously amazing and fierce pieces floating around online at the minute, so I thought I'd share my favourites with you! You can probably tell, but this season I'm really into looking a bit tougher but still with a femme edge. I already own a couple of these pieces (the bandeau, docs, a similar leather jacket and the blue skirt), so you'll be seeing them in outfit posts soon enough, and the others are on my wishlist for the time being.

Dr Martens 1460 8 holes in patent black - found online here
ASOS Curve leather jacket - found online here
Velvet bandeau top by Chubby Cartwheels - found online here
Metallic silver dress by Lovedrobe - found online here
Inspire galaxy print leggings - found online here
ASOS curve flippy flower skirt - found online here

Spring Summer 2012

Spring might not have really hit Yorkshire yet, but I've still been plotting ideas for what I'd like to wear when it warms up. I had a nosey on etsy at my favourites this morning, and put this board together on polyvore for you all. These are all plus size friendly (mostly custom) pieces. I'm particularly looking to buy the custom bike shorts soon as I'm now cycling to work everyday and would like a little less, er, exposure when cycling in skirts! Also, they look great for chub rub prevention on long hot days.

Visit the polyvore set for links.

Haircut time! This is the second year that, as Spring approaches, I've decided to go super short for the summer. I took in a photo of Mia Farrow and Carey Mulligan for this, and definitely happy with the results.

My inspiration for the summer doesn't really differ that much from last year. Short hair, 60s tomboy femme, scooter dresses, uniforms made out of button up blouses, suspenders and wide legged trousers, palazzos or high waisted jumper skirts. A mixture of 50s-70s. Ties, shorts and brogues. Ankle boots, ballet flats and lace ups. Boy-ish, but with classic feminine detailing. Uniforms. Button up everything.

One thing I am excited about this year is my capability to maybe make some of these pieces! Normally I spend so much time hunting for items that the spontaneity just disappears, or the things I find are slightly lukewarm in comparison with my style aspirations.

And one outfit also:

Wednesday night:
Dress, River Island, £30
Scarf, old vintage stock
Belt, £5 Dorothy Perkins
Docs, gifted

70s power flare

70s power flare
70s power flare by prettymary_k featuring wide leg pants

Excuse my slightly sketchy polyvore skills here. I'm big into wide legs and palazzo pants this season. I'm really interested in wearing these styles as a fatty, as I feel the super wide leg is deemed inappropriate to wear (as well as the super skinny, it seems to be all about being as AVERAGE AS POSSIBLE). Here are some fatty fitting examples - most from Dorothy Perkins which goes up to a size 22, two from Love Label (20, though I reckon they'd both fit larger, and that dress is more 60s than 70s, but the camel is more 70s as a colour) and one from ASOS curve (26). I've got to say I'm loving the focus Dotty P's has on the palazzo this season - normally I feel I have to wait months for an on trend cut to arrive (in a highly diluted form) in high street shops, but they're on it this season.

Anyway, I love the 70s as a period, and the luxurious nature of the excessive amounts of fabric used to create such styles, I love the garish-ness of the patterns, the uncoventional colour palettes (I have a serious love for 70s homewares in this respect too, in a horrific kitsch-y fashion). I'd love to wear some palazzos with the sheer waterfall style jacket above and a cami.

I'm interested in the wide leg as a 90s thing too - I can imagine turning the third trousers (which aren't a full length style) in a grungey look with the cropped blouse and my trusty docs and a plaid shirt.

These are all inspirations, as I'm still sticking to my £10 rule this month! So I'll be hunting out similar styles on sale rails, at vintage stores and car boot sales and on ebay.

Fall Goth

Cisco Kaftan
105 GBP - allsaints.com
All saints tops »

Lace Bandeau Bra
$28 - topshop.com
Bandeau bra »

South crushed velvet leggings | Very.co.uk
16 GBP - very.co.uk

Am just dying to break out my inner goth of late. This sheer kaftan from All Saints is far out of my budget, but I'm reckoning plus size friendly. I'm sure that something similar could be shown together with some cheap mesh from the market, and it may well become a sewing project. I've been lusting after those leggings for months also, and fear they may well make it into my winter wardrobe. They're just so right for the 90s trend, and also incredibly versatile. They'll add a bit of texture to anything.

Also, I've included a topshop bandeau bra here - can ANYONE tell me where to get hold of one of these in a plus size? I'm all about sheer and lace this season, and fear my bras aren't quite up for public viewing yet ;)
